Because Biome is built in Rust (inspired by the Rome project and Rust Analyzer), it can handle parsing and analyzing code much faster than traditional JavaScript-based linters. It can process code in a fraction of a second, making on-save checks feel instant.

Zero-config by design

Ultracite is essentially a curated configuration on top of Biome. It comes with preconfigured rules and settings optimized for Next.js / React / TypeScript projects so you and your team don’t need to bikeshed over lint rules. It “just works” with sensible defaults, while still allowing customization when needed.

It enables almost all rules by default across the various categories — type safety, code quality, stylistic consistency, accessibility, security, and more.

Intuitive and simple

Ultracite is designed to be invisible most of the time so you don’t even have to think about linting. With the editor integration, as soon as you save Biome will automatically reformat your code and fix lint issues. Both are done together and the file is updated instantly.

Any issues that cannot be fixed automatically (for example, a variable name that doesn’t follow convention, or an actual bug like using an undefined variable) will be reported as errors/warnings in your editor or terminal, so you can address them manually.

Maximum type safety

Ultracite’s default configuration is intentionally strict. It enforces maximum type safety (relying on TypeScript’s strict modes and additional lint rules) and best practices from across the JavaScript ecosystem. By default, Ultracite includes rules for catching type errors, use of the any type, unreachable code, and more.

Plays nice with others

Biome sorts CSS utility classes (like Tailwind) by default. It also supports a range of functions and prop names you might use in your project such as className, clsx, cva, tw, twMerge, cn, twJoin, etc.
